Growing up in central Wyoming, my childhood and teen years were spent primarily in outdoor activities. Whether it was skiing, hunting and fishing, mountain biking, boating, or four wheeling, I was constantly on the go enjoying the outdoors and staying active. Then, like so many people, work and other obligations slowly conspired to eliminate almost all physical activity from my life. And I ate like most Americans: a diet rich in sugar and fats and low on healthy items. By my early-thirties I was very much out of shape, and although not ‘obese’, I was definitely carrying a lot of excess weight and lacked energy and stamina, especially when I attempted any physical exercise or sport.
It was at that point I decided to make a change. I was ‘sick and tired’ of being sick and tired. But the problem was I didn’t really know how to make the change. I began with a membership at a globo-gym as well as trying all the fads. I tried P90X (and about half a dozen other video programs), and many dieting programs – low fat, low carb, calorie deficit, Nutrisystem, etc. Some of these even created some short term success, but I would soon grow bored or plateau with the same workout routine month after month, or I would go off the diet and gain back any weight I lost plus more (sound familiar?).
After moving to Boise in 2011, my wife and I began looking for a workout facility. We joined one of those $9.95 per month gyms, but I soon grew bored with the same routine and no real results. So we tried several other fitness facilities in the area, each touting its own guaranteed mix of diet and exercise that would be the sure way to success. Again, I would see some short term results, but then I would plateau and grow frustrated. Then in the fall of 2016 I stopped in and visited CrossFit Fireside, where I was offered a free week trial. After convincing my wife to try it with me, we embarked on the hardest week of workouts we had ever encountered and we loved it. Fast forward 2.5 years later and we are both fitter than either of us have ever been in our lives, even though we are now in our late 30’s/early 40’s.
After experiencing the life changing results that CrossFit brought to our lives, I decided that I wanted to be a part of helping others to make positive changes in their lives too. After attaining the CrossFit Level 1 certification and completing the intensive internship program at CrossFit Fireside, I am proud to be embarking on my coaching career. I look forward to sharing with others the fantastic community of CrossFit Fireside and the life changing results that come with it.
